JOHANNESBURG - The City of Tshwane said the water in Hammanskraal is safe to drink again.

The water appeared cloudy last week due to damage at the Klipdrift Water Treatment Plant, which supplies water to the area.

A power failure occurred at the water plant during a severe storm on 4 February.

Repairs were initiated, and the water plant was restarted.

The Minister of Water and Sanitation’s spokesperson, Cornelius Monama, said the reservoirs were left empty for some time, affecting more areas.

“This downtime affected the areas of Mandela Village, Marokolong, Ramotse, Kekana Gardens, Kudube Unit 9, Babelegi Industrial, and Bridgeview informal settlement.

"When the system was restarted on 8 September 2024, it took time to recover, and the City of Tshwane and Magalies Water had to conduct testing and flushing of the system to get air out of the supply pipelines.”
