JOHANNESBURG - The Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) has said that some of the repair work on Lilian Ngoyi Street is dependent on Joburg Water's support to divert major steel water pipes to push forward the rehabilitation work.
JRA project manager Jeff Maluleke said the work is complicated as the first phase requires them to place underground concrete tunnels. However, the big steel pipes supplying water to the city run across the street, making it difficult to navigate.
He adds that diverting the pipes requires a detailed work plan that is beyond their capabilities, necessitating Joburg Water's involvement in order to avoid causing further disruption to the project.
"We do technical meetings where we invite City Power, Joburg Water and all these other guys, so it's just for us to basically put more pressure to them and emphasise the importance of them to address this as soon as possible," said Maluleke.
