Speaking on The John Perlman Show, Rand Water spokesperson Makenosi Marro said residents use up about 300 litres per person daily.
She added that while some people cannot be accounted for in the system, old infrastructure and leaks could also be a big contributor to the high consumption.
“The question that we’re asking is: why is there high consumption? Is it because of old infrastructure? Are there leaks, therefore the consumption is high? Instead of just really looking into the infrastructure, are we looking at how people are consuming water? So those two are related, and they need to be investigated.”
