JOHANNESBURG - The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) says more arrests are imminent for the murder of an officer who was shot in KwaThema, east of Joburg.
Banele Sikhosana was gunned down by two suspects last week outside a tuck shop in the area.
His wife was arrested on Friday and is suspected to be behind his murder.
Three suspects are currently in police custody, with more expected to be nabbed soon.
The victim's wife is accused of commissioning the services of a hitman to kill her husband.
Acting chief of police in the metro, Julius Mkhwanazi said they have some clues regarding the whereabouts of the organiser of the hit.
“Their colleagues who were planning together with them, they're behind the bars. We are left with two or three and we are tracking them, we are tracing them. As I've said now, we'll be driving to the Free State to get the organiser of this hit.”
Mkhwanazi added that one of the suspects will be a witness in the case.
The arrested suspects will appear in Springs Court on Monday.
“That is why we arrested the partner. As we are talking, she's in the cells at KwaThema police station,” said Mkhwanazi.
“On Monday, both of them, they're appearing at Springs Court for the same case, for the murder case.”
