CAPE TOWN - The Democratic Alliance (DA) in the Western Cape says it's shocked by allegations linking yet more South African Police Service (SAPS) members to rape.
Two police officers stationed at Moorreesburg SAPS are being investigated by SAPS and the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) for allegedly kidnapping and raping a 27-year-old woman.
It's understood that the alleged incident happened last week Saturday on a farm in the town and brings the number of police officers accused of rape in the province in recent months to five.
DA Western Cape spokesperson on Police Oversight and Community Safety, Thomas Walters said the continued alleged involvement of police officers in acts of sexual misconduct is alarming.
He described it as an unacceptable betrayal of the trust communities place in our law enforcement.
"Incidents like these have no place in the SAPS and will not be tolerated. We will be expecting action from my committee side."
