DURBAN - The uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) says it will launch intensified campaigns to save Ithala Bank from liquidation.

The bank is at risk after the Prudential Authority approached the court for the bank to be liquidated.

At a media briefing in Durban on Friday, the MK Party said Ithala, which is largely used in rural communities and by local businesses must be saved at all costs.

With the impending liquidation of the bank, there have been various calls in KZN to halt the process.

While the matter is set to be heard in court in March, the MK Party says the liquidation must be stopped.

The party’s Member of Parliament Des van Rooyen, said “This is not just a provincial issue, it is a national crisis that demands a united front, through social media. We will launch a vigorous social media campaign that will expose the injustices surrounding Ithala.”

The party said should the bank be liquidated, rural communities will suffer immensely.
