JOHANNESBURG - The Democratic Nursing Organisation of South Africa (DENOSA) is calling on the Gauteng Department of Health to increase staff and improve working conditions at Tembisa Hospital.
DENOSA claimed that the hospital in Ekurhuleni was severely under-staffed, with only half of the required positions filled.
The union said there was an extreme shortage of essential resources at the institution.
Provincial chairperson Bongani Banda said the situation had led to many skilled healthcare workers leaving the hospital.
"The situation has resulted in high resignation rates, with 225 staff members, including 147 nurses and 43 doctors, leaving since the beginning of the year [2025] due to unbearable working conditions.
"This exodus of skilled professionals has further compromised patient care and increased burnout among remaining staff."
