CAPE TOWN - The Democratic Alliance (DA) in the Western Cape will be stepping in to help social grant beneficiaries struggling to switch SASSA Gold Cards to the Postbank Black Cards.

Beneficiaries have until the end of February to replace their old cards, otherwise, they will be blocked making it impossible to withdraw cash from ATMs and retailers.

The migration process kicked off in September 2024, with promises of enhanced security features and improved functionality.

However, concerns have been raised about the shortage of card renewal sites.

This has led to calls by the Portfolio Committee on Social Development for a deadline extension, to accommodate at least six million grant beneficiaries that still need to make the switch.

The DA's Wendy Kaizer-Philander said they would be visiting different areas where access is a problem to facilitate this process.

"The campaign aims to ensure that no one is left behind as the February 28 deadline for the SASSA Gold Card switch approaches. The Democratic Alliance is committed to assisting vulnerable communities and bringing the SASSA consent form for bank payments to various areas."
