CAPE TOWN - Alleged underworld gang boss, Nafiz Modack, has testified that slain top cop, Charl Kinnear, and retired Major-General Jeremy Vearey had a corrupt relationship with the now-deceased Mark Lifman.

Modack was in the dock on Wednesday to present his evidence-in-chief to answer for the charges he faces.

Modack told the court that after he took over security in Cape Town from Lifman, he was targeted by Vearey and Kinnear.

He told the court that during a meeting with Vearey in May 2017, he was told to share the nightclub security with Lifman.

Modack said Vearey and Kinnear were also behind the seizure of nine legal guns from his home in 2017 but only arrested him two years later.

He said that after meeting an associate, Mohamed Hanware, in 2019, Hanware told him that he had Vearey and Kinnear on his payroll.

Modack said Hanware told him that Lifman had paid the top cops to arrest him.

"He said to me: 'This ou [sic] paid R400,000 to have you arrested'. I asked him who he was referring, and he said Mark Lifman, my lord."

Modack said that he believed Hanware because he proved to him that he had a relationship with Vearey and Kinnear.
