CAPE TOWN - Minister of Electricity and Energy Kgosientsho Ramokgopa said government's transformation agenda was "irreversible".

Ramokgopa also slammed those using the recently passed Expropriation Act as a "scarecrow" and seeking to destroy the country's economy and unseat the government.

Ramokgopa was delivering the closing speech during the second day of the State of the Nation Address (SONA) debate on Wednesday, where he also touched on government's infrastructure investment plan and the economy.

The minister accused Expropriation Act opponents, like AfriForum, of going full "nuclear" in trying to destroy the country’s economy.

"They are detonating the nuclear options to ensure that they undermine the economy of this country so that there’s a groundswell of social discontent that will unseat this government," he said.

Ramokgopa also joined President Cyril Ramaphosa in saying the country won’t be bullied and that transformation and redress remained a top government priority.

"The transformation project is indeed irreversible. We are on the correct path, comrade President. We will not be bullied."

Ramokgopa said government was looking forward to going on a diplomatic tour to explain the country’s position to its allies.

Ramaphosa will respond to the debate on Thursday afternoon.
