JOHANNESBURG - The Vereeniging Magistrate's Court has postponed the matter of the 18-year-old boy accused of murdering his three-year-old brother.
This is to allow the court to secure a date for the accused, Ikemetse Tsheole, to be sent for psychiatric evaluation.
Defence attorney Lucky Sundani argued that his client was not fit to stand trial.
The lawyer for the 18-year-old told the court that his client would abandon his bail application for Thursday.
His client looked calm when he was told he would be sent away for psychiatric evaluation.
His grandmother, aunt and brother were present in court. He did not turn to face them, nor make attempts to talk to them.
State prosecutor, advocate Taku Chabalala said the family is aware of his condition.
“I can confirm that from my discussion with the family and as the medical evidence indicates in the case docket there is a history of schizophrenia.”
The court also heard that Tsheole’s condition was aggravated by substance abuse.
