CAPE TOWN - Two pupils from Leiden High School who've been suspended for allegedly assaulting a Grade 8 pupil will know their fate at the school soon.

The pair were suspended after a video of the incident, showing the victim's face covered in faeces, circulated on social media two weeks ago.

This led to protests at the school by parents and other community members, calling for the principal's head.

The provincial education department has confirmed that CCTV footage showing the alleged incident was downloaded and the school's SGB would announce the date of the disciplinary hearing soon.

The department's deputy director, Alan Meyer: "There will be an outcome or a request to the HOD as per the normal process around disciplinary processes, whether they are requesting further suspension or expulsion of the two learners. But that will come through to the HOD for a final decision."
