Two suspects arrested for attacks on Putco buses to remain behind bars

JOHANNESBURG - The two suspects who were arrested in connection with the torching of 51 Putco buses in Mpumalanga will remain behind bars pending their bail application.

The pair made their first court appearance on Wednesday at the Mdutjana Magistrate's Court on similar charges to those of their co-accused, who were arrested last month on charges of malicious damage to property. 

The men were arrested on Tuesday in Siyabuswa.

Mduduzi Masango and Steven Mthombeni were arrested as part of an ongoing investigation into the attack that occurred last month.

The duo aged 31 and 27, join Isaac Mabena and Luthando Skosana, who were arrested last month after police linked them to the destruction of part of Putco’s fleet at four depots in the province. 

They are expected to join two other suspects in court on Thursday for a bail application.
