Presidency reveals over 1.5 million jobs created since Presidential Youth Employment Initiative established

JOHANNESBURG - Deputy Minister in the Presidency Nonceba Mhlauli has revealed that the Presidential Youth Employment Initiative (PYEI) has created more than 1.5 million jobs since it was established in 2020.
President Cyril Ramaphosa launched the plan to tackle youth unemployment, which currently sits at 45.5%.
Government said that 65% of young people remain outside of employment, education, and training.
Mhlauli said the initiative aims to solve this crisis.
"We have over 53,000 earning opportunities that were secured through the national pathway management network, bringing a total of 1.57 million opportunities since the inception of the programme."
Mhlauli gave an update on the initiative’s successes in the third quarter of the 2024/25 financial year.
"More than 38,000 young people accessed earning opportunities via the SA Youth platform, and an additional 14,500 opportunities were secured through the Employment Services of South Africa. Our Youth Employment Service placed over 10,000 youth in various work opportunities across different sectors."
