DURBAN - KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) police boss Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi is determined to tackle unethical police officers.
During a community imbizo looking at crime in Inanda, north of Durban on Tuesday, some community members raised concerns about unethical police officers.
According to the community members, some police officers were allegedly protecting criminals instead of victims of crime.
They also complained about the non-functionality of police stations.
Residents from Inanda have complained about unethical police officers within the policing precinct.
Some said they were now even scared to provide intelligence to police officers as tip-offs are often reported back to suspects.
Mkhwanazi said: "We are comfortable with the interventions that are happening at head office within the Crime Intelligence in trying to get rid of the bad apples in the service and employing the very same intelligence to help us in dealing with our own members through the counterintelligence strategies that we have in the police."
Mkhwanazi added that several police officers had been dismissed from service for unethical behaviour.
