JOHANNESBURG - The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Gauteng is sounding the alarm about what it calls a deepening water supply crisis affecting parts of the province.

A recent systems support status report by Johannesburg Water has revealed critically low reservoir levels across multiple regions.

The party is blaming the crises on a complete breakdown in basic service delivery, worsened by power failures at Rand Water's systems as many areas have no water or very low water pressure.

The party's Nico de Jager said: "Johannesburg’s water crisis has reached critical levels, with multiple reservoirs running dangerously low across the city. The Gauteng Democratic Alliance is demanding immediate intervention as thousands of residents face water outages and pressure reductions."

He added that the constant blame-shifting between Rand Water, Eskom and City Power must end.

"The DA is calling on Minister [of Public Works] Dean Macpherson to include Gauteng municipalities in his infrastructure support programme to address this basic human right."
