JOHANNESBURG - Tshwane emergency services urged residents to take precautions following a warning of severe weather.

The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a yellow level two alert in the coming days for the capital.

People living in low-lying areas are at high risk of flooding, and motorists face dangerous driving conditions due to poor visibility and slippery roads.

Emergency services warn that fast-flowing streams and rivers could pose serious risks, while severe lightning may spark structural fires and disrupt power supply.

Tshwane Emergency Management Services (EMS) spokesperson Lindsay Mguni said teams were on high alert and stressed the importance of remaining calm when reporting an emergency.

"When reporting an emergency, please remain calm, speak clearly, know where you are to give the correct address and provide a contact number in case the operator needs to call back."

Residents are advised to stay indoors, avoid standing under trees, and never attempt to cross flooded roads or bridges.
