JOHANNESBURG - The police ministry is intensifying efforts to combat corruption among government officials.

Eighteen people have been arrested for fraud and violating the Road Traffic Act in Limpopo.

Officials at the Lephalale local municipality, who have been under investigation since 2021, have been apprehended for breaking the law.

While the exact nature of the charges is unclear, it’s understood these officials have been at the centre of corruption networks in the municipality for several years.

Police spokesperson Kamogelo Mokgotsi said the rule of law would be strictly enforced against corrupt government officials.

"The Minister of Police, Mr Senzo Mchunu, strongly condemns any form of abuse of power, corruption and criminal activities by government officials entrusted with serving the public. Investigations remain ongoing, and more arrests are expected as law enforcement agencies work diligently to dismantle corrupt networks."
