Manhunt underway for inmate who escaped from Pollsmoor Correctional Centre

CAPE TOWN - A manhunt is underway for a 35-year-old inmate who escaped from the Pollsmoor Correctional Centre.
Yanga Wayithi is serving a six-month sentence for theft and trespassing.
He was assigned to a work team responsible for maintaining the prison grounds.
The Department of Correctional Service's Singabakho Nxumalo: "The SAPS [South African Police Service] has been notified, and a case of escape from lawful custody has been opened. The Department of Correctional Services's tracing team is actively working to ensure a swift rearrest. As the manhunt continues, the public is urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the authorities."
