WCED waiting on disciplinary outcome against Lotus High pupils suspended for bullying

CAPE TOWN - The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) said it is waiting on the outcome of disciplinary proceedings against a group of Lotus High School pupils caught on video bullying another pupil.
Footage of the pupils attacking a female schoolmate went viral on social media last week, sparking public outrage.

The department has confirmed that the pupils involved in the bullying incident have been suspended, adding that it was now waiting on the school’s governing body to share the outcomes of the disciplinary process.
Meanwhile, provincial police commissioner, Themisile Patekile, said that four boys had been arrested, and police were searching for more learners.
"I don't know where this anger comes from from our children as young as 12, 13 years old. We have school safety programmes where we interact with schools, but I think it’s important that as parents, or grandparents, we surely have got to come up with another way."
