Police investigating arson attack at Nyanga taxi rank

Fire crews responded to the terminus where at least 16 taxis were torched at 10PM on Sunday night.

CAPE TOWN - Additional police have been deployed to the Nyanga taxi rank after several vehicles were set alight.
 
SAPS officials and fire crews responded to the scene late on Sunday night.
 
Their efforts to extinguish the blaze were hampered by strong winds but they finally managed to get the fire out just before midnight.
 
The police's Novela Potelwa: "Western Cape police are investigating a case of arson after a number of minibus taxis were set alight at the Nyanga taxi rank. The incident prompted the deployment of additional forces to the area to restore calm. In total, 16 minibus taxis were damaged. The taxi rank remains open for commuters and police are on high alert."
