CAPE TOWN - Alleged underworld gang boss, Nafiz Modack, and his 14 co-accused are back in the Western Cape High Court where they face 122 charges related to operating a criminal enterprise.

Modack's co-accused number two, Zane Kilian, is still being cross-examined after being in the dock for more than a week.

Kilian faces charges for tracking the whereabouts of certain targets, allegedly on behalf of Modack.

Evidence shows that Kilian pinged slain top cop, Charl Kinnear, more than 2,000 times before his murder in September 2020.

Kilian claims he pinged Kinnear only on instruction from Modack and sometimes via a mutual associate, Renier van der Vyver.

He told the court he was receiving messages to ping Kinnear via WhatsApp from various cellphone numbers believed to be Modack.

Modack's lawyer, advocate Bashier Sibda, told the court that Modack admitted to asking Kilian to ping Kinnear but denied giving him instructions to track Kinnear excessively on the day of his murder.

Kilian will be back in the dock on Monday.
