CAPE TOWN - President Cyril Ramaphosa says he wants a “clean sweep” of everything holding the country’s economy back.

He says the government will be aggressive while creating a more inclusive economy by bringing in more young people and women.

Ramaphosa was speaking at the presidential golf challenge charity event at Cape Town’s Atlantic Beach Golf Club earlier, where he expanded on Thursday night's State of the Nation Address.

On Friday, Ramaphosa further expanded on his government’s agenda and how he plans to drive practical change in the economy.

He says one way is to create new industries like the green economy and artificial intelligence while addressing local government challenges.

“We intend into the second phase which will focus on water and local government and the regulatory environment. So we are intending to do a clean sweep on everything that is holding our economy back.”

Ramaphosa says investment confidence is also up.

“Once investment confidence is up we will see a real growth in investments in our economy.”

In his SONA speech, Ramaphosa also announced initiatives to fund small businesses, and up to r900 billion to be invested in infrastructure over the next five years.
