CAPE TOWN - President Cyril Ramaphosa said that the formation of a Government of National Unity (GNU) was an opportunity for the country to show what can be achieved when South Africans across the divide worked together.

He invited South Africans to come together in a long-awaited National Dialogue to define a 30-year vision for the country.

While the dialogue was originally slated for last December, Ramaphosa did not provide a new date for the gathering.

But he said that the platform must be used to find solutions that will make a real difference in people’s lives.

"While we may differ on many issues, we agree on one thing, that we need to build a better South Africa, and improve the well-being of our people, and that we should do so not by sitting on the sidelines and shouting. We should be in the scrum, working to develop the lives of our people."
