CAPE TOWN - Presidency spokesperson, Vincent Magwenya, has slammed Afrikaans lobby group AfriForum for "sowing racial division" by spreading disinformation about the country.

Magwenya also said it would not be worth President Cyril Ramaphosa's time to engage the organisation.

Magwenya made the remarks at a press briefing on Wednesday, where he addressed US President Donald Trump and billionaire Elon Musk's recent remarks about human rights violations against white farmers.

Magwenya said that what AfriForum had done was deliberate and was aimed at creating fear among some South Africans.

He said that the organisation was loud enough to find an ear within certain quarters in the US leadership establishment.

"What AfriForum has adopted as a feature is sowing racial divisions and sowing fear among a group of their supporters."

But he doubts that President Ramaphosa will engage AfriForum on the Expropriation Act and its other concerns.

"I will have my doubts about the efficacy of him engaging with AfriForum."

Magwenya said the president and the government would continue engaging the Trump administration on matters of mutual interest.
