Outside the parliamentary precinct, things are relatively quiet, with police saying they have received only one application for a protest on Thursday.

The Palestine Solidarity Campaign has indicated it will be staging a protest later in the day to highlight its concerns about what it has deemed apartheid practices, both nationally and abroad.

Police said protestors will not be allowed into the parliamentary precinct, with a designated area marked off for demonstrations.

Later on Thursday morning, Minister of Police Senzo Mchunu will be addressing the National Joint Operational and Intelligence Structure (NATJOINTS) ahead of their deployment for SONA.
