JOHANNESBURG - The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (NUMSA) has called for accountability after two Rea Vaya bus drivers were shot dead in Soweto.
The union said the City of Johannesburg and bus companies must ensure the safety of all workers.

The attacks, which took place earlier this week, have led to the indefinite suspension of bus services.
"It cannot be that workers are killed simply for doing their job. We demand that Piotrans and Litsamaiso, which are the companies with the operating licence to run Rea Vaya, as well as the MMC for Transport and the City of Joburg, must urgently take steps to guarantee the safety of workers," said NUMSA spokesperson Phakamile Hlubi-Majola.
"As NUMSA, we are calling on the city to act decisively to ensure that workers are protected. The buses are insured, but the lives of workers are not, and this is unforgivable."
