Mzwanele Manyi said President Ramaphosa must also put his foot down and protect the interests of South Africans as he feels President Trump is doing.

CAPE TOWN - Geopolitical issues remain a prominent topic ahead of the State of the Nation Address (SONA), with some parties questioning why the government seems threatened by the United States (US).
President Cyril Ramaphosa is set to deliver the SONA at the Cape Town City Hall on Thursday.
UMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party chief whip Mzwanele Manyi said he doesn’t think President Donald Trump’s recent remarks about South Africa are personal, he’s just protecting American interests.
This comes in response to Trump's claim that South Africa has been expropriating private property from a specific class of citizens.
Manyi has since responded to Trump’s statement.
As Trump decided to cut funding for HIV//Aids relief, Manyi believes the government should take similar action with minerals.
Manyi argues that Ramaphosa should alter the terms under which the US can access minerals from South African land.
“If Mr [Cyril] Ramaphosa could take the Trump approach, South Africa would be in a better position. Trump is doing everything to further the interests of America. Now South Africa must look after South Africa, but that’s not happening.”
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced he would not attend the G20 gathering in Johannesburg because South Africa has been doing what he describes as “bad things”.
Manyi said Ramaphosa must also put his foot down and protect the interests of South Africans.
