SONA 2025: Hill-Lewis wants Ramaphosa to announce reforms on policing, passenger rail, ports management

CAPE TOWN - Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis has called on President Cyril Ramaphosa to announce reforms for policing, passenger rail, and the management of ports during his State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Thursday.
Hill-Lewis said that the Government of National Unity (GNU) had a golden chance to drive job-creating reforms in Cape Town.

Hill-Lewis said that City of Cape Town officials would be listening intently to Ramaphosa's address.
"We'll be closely watching President Ramaphosa's speech for updates on greater private sector involvement in running the Port of Cape Town, and more policing powers for municipal officers to help SAPS fight gang, drug and gun crime."
The mayor said he also expected the president to commit to urgently devolving the passenger rail system for the municipality to operate.
