JOHANNESBURG - Police Minister Senzo Mchunu has condemned the alleged assault of a gender-based violence (GBV) victim at the Heideadal Police Station in Free State this week.

This comes after video footage emerged on social media showing two female officers beating the victim and throwing her out of the police station.

It's understood the woman went to the station to report a case of domestic violence against her partner.

Mchunu says the matter is being investigated and appropriate action will follow.

“The minister strongly condemned the actions of the police officers visible in the video, stating the following: 'The behaviour displayed by members of the SAPS in that video is highly unacceptable and completely contrary to the core values of the SAPS [South Africa Police Service], which exists to serve and protect all citizens, as mandated by the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa'," said the Police Ministry's spokesperson Kamogelo Mogotsi.
