JOHANNESBURG - The Department of Home Affairs reports that it has made significant strides to tackle the long-standing visa backlog.

It says the visa backlog Bomb Squad, a team of dedicated officials, has worked tirelessly to clear a decade-old backlog of more the 300,000 visa applications.

Home Affairs Minister Leon Schreiber says the success of the backlog bomb squad demonstrates the department's commitment to progress and its potential to restore faith in the country's ability to make progress.

"Thanks to their dedication they have not only cleared files, but they have also restored the dignity of countless individuals and families and they have demonstrated that the Department of Home Affairs is making progress."
