DURBAN - Judgment has been reserved in the murder case of two brothers accused of killing Durban businessman Shailen Singh.

Singh was shot and killed execution-style inside his vehicle in the Umhlanga area, north of Durban, in December.

Two brothers Ferrel and Darren Govender stand accused of the trucking businessman's premeditated murder.

They have spent almost a month behind bars applying for bail.

The Durban Magistrates Court has heard arguments from the State and defence in the Singh murder case.

The State has been opposing bail while defence lawyers have been arguing for the pair's release.

It is the State's case that the murder was planned before being executed, alleging that accused one Ferrel emptied his magazine on the deceased who sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the upper body and his abdomen.

State prosecutor Seema Reddy said that the pair are a flight risk and may flee given the fact that after the commission of the crime - one of the accused left the Kwazulu-Natal province for Gauteng.

Reddy also believes despite confiscating the pair's passports, the brothers could get new ones.

The State has also cited the safety of victims, some of who have been threatened and injured by the accused.

Judgment will be handed down on Monday.
