JOHANNESBURG - Johannesburg City Power is urging its customers to reduce electricity usage to alleviate pressure on the power grid.
This came as Eskom announced stage 3 load shedding, which took effect from 5pm on Friday.
It said two of its best-performing power stations experienced an operational failure.
City Power spokesperson Isaac Mangena said schedules are available on its communication platforms.
“We - therefore - plead with customers to use electricity sparingly to avoid causing network overload, which was the reason why we had to implement load reduction in certain areas.”
Meanwhile, the City of Cape Town has offered its residents some respite.
Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis said the city has activated load shedding protection from at least two stages of power cuts.
“We are very concerned about Eskom's sudden announcement about the return of blackouts. Load shedding has a huge economic impact, which is why we are continuing to build our own energy security in Cape Town through independent power purchases and grid investments.”
