DURBAN - The prosecution in the murder case of Durban businessman Shailen Singh has cited the safety of witnesses as a concern should the Govender brothers be released from prison.
Ferrel and Darren Govender are accused of killing Singh on 29 December 2024.
Singh was shot and killed while sitting inside his car in the Umhlanga area, north of Durban.
Police said he sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
The brothers were back in the Durban Magistrates Court for continuation in their bail application.
The two have been behind bars for almost a month now.
During the arguments in court, the State raised concerns about the safety of witnesses if the pair is released on bail.
State prosecutor Reddy Sema said the State has an audio clip of the pair allegedly threatening a witness.
The seven-minute-long clip was played in court, however, journalists were asked to leave the court during this time.
The witness is said to have suffered injuries from the alleged attack.
