JOHANNESBURG - Westpark Cemetery in Johannesburg is running out of space and is set to reach full capacity in just four months.
The site, which opened its gates in 1956, is currently limiting burials to 15 interments per week.
Johannesburg City Parks is now working to provide support to families and communities affected by the development.

It said it is exploring alternative solutions, including new cemetery sites and more efficient use of existing burial sites.
City Parks managing director Thanduxolo Mendrew said burials will be directed to three cemeteries, including Olifantsvlei, Waterval, and Diepsloot cemeteries.
"Westpark Cemetery, which has been operational since 1956, will reach full capacity in four months' time, by May 2025. Thereafter, burials will be directed to three cemeteries with sufficient capacity for the next 40 years."
