JOHANNESBURG - The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) said that President Cyril Ramaphosa should not let "fanatics" lead him into plunging South Africa into a war.
This comes on the back of a diplomatic dispute between Pretoria and Rwanda.
Rwanda has taken issue with the presence of the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) on the eastern side of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
This is where the Rwanda-backed rebel group M23 is involved in a deadly civil war with the DRC government.
Speaking at an EFF event in Limpopo, the party’s leader, Julius Malema, said this was the time for restraint and not escalation.
"Those who have over the years in modern society lost the popular mandate of the people have embarked on senseless wars, sacrificing soldiers in an attempt to unite one common purpose and one common cause. The president of South Africa ought to be careful not to allow fanatics to incite him into war simply because it will give the people who have lost hope in him a common enemy to unite against."
