JOHANNESBURG - Lobby group, Solidarity, has not ruled out legal action over the promulgation of the Basic Education Laws Amendment (BELA) Act.

The organisation, alongside AfriForum, earlier in January, sent letters of demand to President Cyril Ramaphosa and Basic Education Minister Siviwe Gwarube over the promulgation of the act.

The two organisations gave the parties 10 days to respond after threatening court action over the rationality of the statute.

The correspondence has resulted in a temporary halt in legal action until the guidelines have been drafted by the minister.

However, organisational head, Werner Human said that the option remains viable.

"If we think that those guidelines do not address our core concerns then we are ready to almost go immediately to court. The axe, it remains hanging until two weeks after the guidelines have been published."
