CAPE TOWN - Alleged underworld gang boss Nafiz Modack's co-accused, Zane Kilian, is being grilled under cross-examination in the Western Cape High Court on Thursday.
Kilian is charged with using cell phone technology to track the whereabouts of certain targets on behalf of Modack.
One of those targets, slain top cop, Charl Kinnear, was shot dead outside his Bishop Lavis home in September 2020.
State prosecutor, Greg Wolmarens, and Judge Robert Henney questioned Kilian about his behaviour on the day Lieutenant Charl Kinnear was murdered.
Kilian said that shortly after the murder, he received a phone call from co-accused, Ziyaad Poole, saying they were coming to collect his cell phone.
Kilian told the court he immediately took out the SIM card before deleting all the tracking applications on his phone, along with WhatsApp.
Both Wolmarens and Henney asked Kilian why he felt he needed to delete the applications if he believed he was doing legitimate work for Modack.
Kilian told the court he went into a panic as he believed that if Modack could murder Kinnear, he could have him killed too.
The trial continues.
