DURBAN - The uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party said that the charges against its member of Parliament, Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla, were a political stunt.

This after Zuma-Sambudla made her first appearance in the Durban Magistrates Court on incitement and terrorism charges linked to the 2021 July unrest.

The State believes the accused had an impact on the unrest which saw widespread looting and over 350 people killed.

"The mere fact that they can use such senior members of the NPA to participate in combing through tweets, I mean that alone just tells you, and then four years later you want trumped up charges that don’t even lead to an amount of bail," said MK Party spokesperson, Nhlamulo Ndhlela.

He said the move was directed at former President Jacob Zuma.

"That’s just a clear indication that this is just a political ploy, it’s a political witch hunt against the Zuma family and like I said, there are Zuma laws and then there are everyone's laws."
