CAPE TOWN - The Mdzananda Animal Clinic says many animals have gone missing, are injured or are too terrified to return home, after a fire at the Taiwan informal settlement in Khayelitsha.
Humanitarian relief is being provided to affected families, while the animal clinic's Marcelle du Plessis said they were still searching for animals in distress.
"What we have encountered is heartbreaking - families desperate to find their beloved pets, animals suffering from injuries, and a community in shock. We are calling on the public to please help us with emergency donations."
Du Plessis said they were also taking donations for humanitarian aid.
"We are also asking the public to make any donations in-kind such as building materials, clothing, food and anything that people can use to rebuild their lives. To help in any way, please visit our website on www.mdzananda.co.za."
