JOHANNESBURG - As South Africa prepares to host the G20 Summit in April, the Gauteng provincial government said it was prepared to make a significant contribution to the global gathering.
Gauteng's Finance and Economic Development MEC Lebogang Maile has been leading the charge in preparing the province for the G20 Summit.
He has emphasised the importance of using the G20 platform to promote economic growth, job creation, and investment in Gauteng and the rest of Africa.
Maile said that one of the key areas where the province could make a significant contribution was in the development of the G20's Africa agenda.
He was speaking during a feedback session, sharing some insights after attending the World Economic Forum in Davos last week.
Maile said that the province was home to a large number of African diplomats and business leaders, and was well positioned to facilitate dialogue and cooperation between African countries and the rest of the G20 membership.
"Gauteng, as South Africa's economic engine, is poised to play a critical role in advancing regional integration and achieving the continent's economic aspiration."
In addition to its economic contributions, he said that Gauteng is also expected to play a key role in shaping the G20's agenda on issues such as climate change, education, and healthcare.
