JOHANNESBURG - The City of Johannesburg is standing by its decision to appoint Helen Botes as its acting chief operating officer.
The South African Municipal Workers Union (SAMWU) has called for her axing.
It says she will collapse the city because she faces a string of allegations of corruption.
But City of Johannesburg spokesperson, Nthatisi Modingoane, said they would not heed this call of removal.
"There is nothing wrong with appointing, whether MD or CEO of an entity, to act within the core administration. This has been done before. There were issues that were raised about Helen when she was at JPC. Helen has been moved from there because there is an investigation there to try and unearth the truth out of those allegations. So, if she is not there, she won't be able to interfere with the investigation."
