CAPE TOWN - Opposition parties in the Western Cape have jointly called for an urgent meeting with provincial police commissioner, Thembisile Patekile, to discuss issues related to a raid on City of Cape Town offices.

On Friday, police raided the offices of safety and security MMC, JP Smith, and Energy MMC, Xanthea Limberg, in connection with a construction sector tender fraud case that's already before the courts and involves former Human Settlements MMC, Malusi Booi.

Smith has revealed he was aware of an alleged plot to discredit him and Democratic Alliance (DA) Federal Council chairperson, Helen Zille, has stated that Smith tipped her off about the apparent investigation.

The African National Congress (ANC)'s Khalid Sayed said that the integrity of investigations were tainted if Smith was tipped off about the raid.

"Given the seriousness of these claims, we collectively call for an urgent meeting with the provincial police commissioner, General Patekile, to address the following: the alleged tip-off to Smith that he was under investigation, whether there's any substance in Zille and Smith's claim."

The Good Party's Brett Herron: "It is our view that the DA as an implicated party, who have cast doubt on the integrity of the investigation, should not be in a position to continue to participate in these engagements."
