CAPE TOWN - Some members of the Land Reform and Rural Development Portfolio Committee want legislation governing the Ingonyama Trust board to be reviewed.

They say there’s a clear clash between the Ingonyama Trust Act in KwaZulu-Natal and national legislation like the Public Finance Management Act.

This comes after AmaZulu King MisuZulu decided to suspend Ingonyama Trust Board members, a move only the minister can authorise.

Committee member, Andile Mngxitama, said that legislation must recognise the power of the king.

"It is clear that there is tension in terms of the law that says the land belongs to the king but he has no administrative or executive powers to appoint his own board."

Committee chairperson Albert Mncwango said they would be meeting with the king to try to resolve the matter.

"All we we're going to do and we are still going to do that is to actually find out and give the king an ear of exactly what’s going on."
