CAPE TOWN - Public Works Minister Dean Macpherson has appealed to South Africans not to be distracted by power plays.

The Democratic Alliance (DA) has been at loggerheads with its Government of National Unity (GNU) partners following the enactment of the Expropriation Act last week.

The party has accused the African National Congress (ANC) of making unilateral decisions in the GNU.

Macpherson was speaking at the "Build Better KZN" event at the International Convention Centre in Durban on Tuesday.

The Public Works minister said he remains committed to turning South Africa into a construction site.

"In this regard, the GPU [Government of Provincial Unity], which was formed before the GNU, serves as an example for all of us to follow. Under the leadership of Premier Ntuli, this government remains focused on the job at hand and does not allow itself to be distracted by internal squabbles. When the national government of unity was formed after the historic May elections, the 10-party coalition decided to set aside their differences for the greater good of South Africa."
