CAPE TOWN - Democratic Alliance (DA) federal council chairperson Helen Zille has asked for Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis to be given a chance to deal with the latest raids of his mayoral committee members’ offices.

The police said the raid is linked to the tender fraud case in the construction sector that is already before the courts involving former Human Settlements MMC Malusi Booi.
Hill-Lewis has been criticised for not moving quickly enough to suspend Smith and Limberg, as he did with Booi and other councillors who have had a dark cloud over their heads.
Zille said she's confident the mayor has made all the right decisions so far.
"After Malusi's office was searched, the police had a discussion with Geordin, and Geordin said, as a courtesy, ‘Could I know what the prima facie evidence is that you have against him so that I can see whether this is a political hit squad or whether there's some real substantive stuff to which he has to answer?’"
