CAPE TOWN - The annual Cape Flats Book Festival is set to take place in Lentegeur, Mitchells Plain this weekend.

The event will feature several local poets and authors, celebrating their literary works.

But it’s also aimed encouraging children and adults to read more and grow their literacy and comprehension skills.

Event organiser, Roscoe Williams, said that the festival had positively impacted residents in the area.

"The book festival is the first of its kind to the community. For the past four years we’ve been having this festival in the Cape Flats, Mitchells Plain area and has really gotten a lot of people excited about the book festival. We’ve had people that have attended this book festival that were fortunate to publish their book after attending this book festival."

Williams said that there would be a variety of guests at the event and some new authors.

"We have over 70 authors that will be at the Cape Flats Book Festival, we even have Alan Durant that flew down all the way from the UK to be here, but we also have local authors from the Cape Flats area that will be there. Some have been on the panel before, and others are making their debut at this year’s book festival."
