CAPE TOWN - One hundred and thirty-nine people died on the Western Cape's roads this past festive season.
However, this is a drop compared to the previous year's figures of 164 fatalities.
Mobility MEC Isaac Sileku said pedestrians accounted for the highest number of fatalities, followed by passengers and then drivers.
Sileku said while any loss of life was devastating, he's encouraged by the fact that this figure represents a 15.24% decrease from the previous year.
"The number of fatal crashes dropped from 142 to 123, a trend that affirms the positive impact of our efforts supported by our partners and stakeholders."
