JOHANNESBURG - Operations at the Oshoek border post with Eswatini have resumed, following a truck accident on Sunday.
A coal truck allegedly experienced brake failure and ramped into multiple stationary vehicles and also damaged infrastructure.
The movement of travellers and goods between South Africa and Eswatini was temporarily suspended as a result.
The Border Management Authority (BMA)’s deputy assistant commissioner, Mmemme Mogotsi, said authorities had successfully cleared the scene.
"The commissioner of the Border Management Authority, Dr Michael Masiapato, and the South African Revenue Service (SARS) are pleased to announce the full resumption of travellers and cargo operations at the Oshoek port of entry with Eswatini following the successful clearance and safety assessment of the port after a serious truck accident on 26 January 2025."
Mogotsi added that those who were injured were recovering.
"We are grateful to confirm that the three individuals injured during the incident; that is a SARS [South African Revenue Service] official, a tourism monitor and the truck driver; were able to receive prompt medical attention and they are recovering well."
