JOHANNESBURG - Popular traditional healer Makgotso Mofokeng, better known as Gogo Maweni, is set to appear in court on Monday for a formal bail application.

Maweni was at the Protea Magistrates Court last week facing charges of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, dating back to 2019.

The well-known traditional healer has remained in police custody since the matter was remanded for Monday’s bail application.

She made her first court appearance on 20th January, where she attempted to bar media, through her lawyer Marcia Makuse, from taking videos and images to protect her children and the alleged twins she is expecting.

The healer was arrested earlier in January during a trace and arrest operation by the Gauteng Police Cold Case Investigation Unit, alongside members of the province’s Intelligence Investigation Office.

For her court appearance, hundreds of sangoma initiates are expected to show their support for Maweni, as she hopes for a positive outcome in her bail application.
